Construction: Planning Titles

Before deciding our opening titles for our horror film opening we agreed to try several different types of fonts, sizes and placements. we did this by making one title and testing numerous adjustments to see what would look best for our opening.

The first thing we did is typed in Marvin Addae into the title editor and modified it to see what would look good, we looked for what font would be suitable first.

We ignored the first font as it was too dull and basic and chose to use the default size font as it was a good size. The first font we looked at was Monotype Corsiva but we thought it looked to fancy and elegant.

The next font we looked at was Minion Pro but we thought it was too plain to be in our opening.

The next font we looked at is Myriad Pro but the characters were too horizontally congested.

The next font we looked at is Noteworthy but it was too childish and looked hand drawn.

The next font we looked at is Rosewood Std but we thought it looked like a font that we be featured in a carnival.

The next font we looked at is Savoy LET but again it was too fancy.

The next font we looked at is Bangla MN. This is the only font we finally decided on as it looked plain but not too basic, and could easily be used in our horror opening and work well.

The next thing we decided to do it change the font colors and see if the opening titles would look better in a different color. We started by changing it to red to see if was good, we chose that red looked to cliche and not to use it.

Next we chose it to be yellow and see if that was any better but it was not and didn't really fit our theme. After a few colors we realised that a white font would be the best and safest option.

After choosing our font and font color we moved on to choosing if your names of actors should all be capitalised or all lower case. We first looked at all lower case and came to a conclusion that since the characters play a big part in the horror opening it would make more sense and look better if they were all capitals.

After seeing what they looked like in all capitals we agreed upon using capitals for all the main parts of the opening titles and it looked better.

After this we chose where the positioning of the Name would be, we first tried in the top left and saw what is looked like. We decided that it looked okay but wanted to see it in the other corner.

After moving it to the bottom right corner we thought that if we were going to put it in any corner it would be the right, but only if we were going to overlay the text on top of the footage.

Since this was discussed with our group that the titles should not be overlaid due to the bright footage may make the titles hard to read, we chose to use black screens for the opening tiles to be shown. Considering we are not overlaying the opening titles should be in the middle and their role sitting on the top right of the name. we made the role text font equal yet the size 50.

We decided to use the movie Se7en as inspiration and follow their conventions and patterns of opening titles.
